Remembering OBX

Matt has wanted to take us to the outer banks in North Carolina for a long time.  He was there when he was 12 years old, loved it and has always wanted to go back.  Finally, this year, we made it there as a family and I have to say, OBX made a lasting impression on me as well.

We rented a beach front condo with a pool.  We were just a hop, skip and a jump to the beach.  It was so nice having the ocean to splash in but it was even nicer having the pool to jump into.

Our first night there, a commercial fisherman was pulling in his 400 ft. net with his truck. We were so excited because we were sure he was going to pull in some big fish, a skate, or even a shark!  But, as he dragged it in, to our disappointment, there was only small junk fish and a few crabs tangled in the net.

One night we played miniature golf.  We got off to a rough start being that it was Holly and Gabby's first attempt at playing and with Holly insisting on hitting the ball HER way.  But, it ended with big smiles and very chatty girls reminiscing about how much fun they had.

On the 4th of July, we went to Jockey's Ridge State Park to watch fireworks.   The park is known for the natural made sand dunes as high as 90 - 100 ft.  Because of the wind, they are forever changing.

On our last day, we ventured down to Cape Hatteras Light House.  We climbed all 257 steps to the top.

On a clear day, you could probably see for miles but unfortunately, it was hot and hazy during our visit.

We had a wonderful trip and can't wait to go back.
