Silly Idea
I know every Mom out there has the same question...Why? Why couldn't I have thought of this simple and silly idea? My girls absolutely love them and are very protective over them as well. Neighbor friends have asked if they could wear them, and the answer was flat out "NO"! When Gabby isn't wearing her Silly Bands, she keeps them safely in her room out of reach from her little sister. Yesterday, Gabby wasn't home all day so Holly knew she had her chance to wear her sister's bands. And she wore them proudly. Thankfully, Grandma Jan come over with more Silly Bands and now Holly has her very own.

Georgia Bound
Last week we packed our bags and headed south bound on route 95 until we reached our destination...Georgia. My mom and stepdad have a place in Brunswick, GA and they were nice enough to let my family stay there on our vacation. Thanks G.J. and Jer!!
Brunswick, GA is located along the Atlantic coast with great shelling beaches on St. Simons and Jekyll Islands. Georgia's coastline is a hidden gem with beaches that aren't so crowded with more locals than tourists buzzing around. It's also very close to Fernadina Beach located in Florida where you'll find great shopping and of course, picturesque towns and coastlines.
Our week was chocked full of fun beginning with our shrimp boat ride where you eat fresh boiled shrimp during a two-hour excursion. YUMO!!
Everyday we were either on the beach or wading in the community splash park/pool. The girls really enjoyed that but they had fun jumping the waves on the beach, too.
We also got to do some fishing. Matt thought that the girls would enjoy the thrill of catching something, possibly even a shark. Sure enough, they hooked a couple of small Black Tip Sharks and trapped two hermit crabs in the crab trap. Nothing to brag about, but it was a fun experience and everyone left happy (including Matt, who I think the fishing trip was really for.)
Here are a few pictures from our trip. Enjoy!

Candling?
Things are getting busy for Lizards of Oz. This is the time of year when his snakes start laying their eggs and the incubation process begins. But, before any eggs are put into the incubator, Matt carefully checks each egg to make sure it is fertile. This process is called candling. First the eggs are removed from the females cage, then each egg is placed in a container with slightly damp pearlite (incubation medium), then a high powered flashlight is held against the egg to check for blood veins which will indicate the egg is fertile. Then the container is placed in the incubator and kept at 88 - 89 degrees for a period of 56 - 60 days.
You will know hatching is drawing near when the eggs start to dimple and sweat. At that point, the tiny snake inside uses it's egg tooth to slit an opening in the egg. After that, the snake will sit inside the egg for 4-5 days until all of the yoke has been absorbed, and then finally, he slithers out.
Below are a few pictures to give you an idea of how this process works.
